Weekend Getaway

Jim and I are taking Fifi and Samson camping this weekend. My friend is going to watch Princess and Yoyo because they do NOT enjoy camping at all. Princess will deal with it if she goes, but Yoyo gets rather “stressed” and I worry she will run off and not come back. The campground is very nice and has lovely places for Fifi and Samson to run and play and interact with others. Samson has been running around Jim’s feet all morning just waiting til we tell him it’s time to go. I am still packing Princess’ and Yoyo’s things for the weekend. I forgot how much stuff they have!

Work, Work and More Work.

I did not realize exactly how far behind I was on my work. :( Lucky for me Yoyo and Princess have decided to keep me company. Work is much more pleasant with Yoyo on my lap and Princess overseeing beside the computer. (What a sight!) Maybe all this work isn’t such a bad thing after all.

The Resort

Even though we weren’t able to stay at the ski resort, I have to say it is WONDERFUL! Everyone is friendly and the other guests were fabulous. I don’t think I have ever enjoyed skiing so much before. The hotel where we have stayed is nice, not too fancy, but CLEAN! It’s called Commodores Inn and it’s right off of Rt 100. We did have to pay a nonrefundable deposit for our babies, but it was worth it. Yoyo and Princess have made ample use of the room, after the first moment in the snow, neither one of them willingly stepped out the door. We head home tomorrow and I am sure they will be much happier than they are at this moment.

Change in Plans

We have had a change in plans. Instead of meeting partway, we are now driving all the way to Vermont. It seems the lodge we had reserved has changed the pet policy. No pets are allowed. Oh well, good thing I am flexible. On to Vermont we go!

We Are Off

We are ready to head out. Jim and I decided that maybe we should try leaving later so the “babies” would sleep most of the way. By the time we reach the halfway mark they should be ready to get out and take care of natures call and get some exercise before we check into our room. I will let you know if this was a good idea or not.

All About the Trip

The trip went pretty well, all things considered. We picked a nice weekend for it, at least, lovely weather. And I found another great B&B online, reasonable rates, pet-friendly, and no extra charge for having FOUR animals!!!! Luckily it’s only an hour’s drive from our house.

Our Adventures Traveling With Our Pets

null

I have a lot of friends with children, and they always make the assumption that traveling is so much easier for my husband and I because we don’t. How little they know! You see, Jim (my husband) and I have pets: two dogs and two cats, to be precise. We also travel a lot, which means that our dear little Fifi, Samson, Princess and our newest baby Yoyo, travel with us.

The first thing we did was figure out all the rules and regulations of pet travel. We’ve done our fair share of online research over the last few years. That’s why I’ve put together a handy online pet travel resource guide which I use again and again to plan our pet travel adventures.

Of course, even after using these resources and buying the right travel equipment, traveling with your pets will be fraught with difficulties. We discovered this through trial and error. You’ve got to be prepared for the realities of pet travel!

You also have to know what you’re going to do if there is a situation where you can’t take the pets with you (out to a restaurant for a dinner for two, for example!) This means plenty of forward planning and a bit of patience too! 

I hope you enjoy reading about our travel adventures with our pets. Please feel free to come back often and to share your comments and pet travel adventures with us!

For your convenience, we can also email you our latest updates! As a “thank you” gift for signing up for our email updates, we will send you a FREE copy of our BEST OF THE WEB Pet Travel Resource Resources. To get your FREE copy, click here!

We would love to hear about your travel adventures with your pets! Thank you for visiting our blog and feel free to share your pet travel tips and pet travel “tails” with us.

As you know Jim and I have already stayed in a bed and breakfast with our babies and had a wonderful experience. But for those of you considering it, I thought this article may be useful. (more…)

Mail!

I had not realized we had been gone so long! It will take me days to get through all the mail! LOL The babies are so happy to be home and have roamed every inch of the house and yard. Today we are going to rake the leaves and start getting everything ready for winter.

Home

We are home, seems like we were gone for months! Samson and Fifi “flew” out of the car, and ran and jumped and played until they finally fell down for a rest. Princess went straight to the porch and groomed herself before taking a seat to watch the entertainment. I think we may stay home for a while before heading on the next adventure.

Almost Home

Even though we have had such a wonderful time on this trip, I must admit, I can not wait to get home. We are staying tonight in a lovely little Bed & Breakfast and will arrive home tomorrow evening. I think the babies are ready to be home too. Tomorrow, tomorrow, I love ya tomorrow….

Groomers

I must say that after our unfortunate meeting with the skunk, I have never aprreciated a great groomer as much as I do now. We found a lovely little shop in the next town and they were so very wonderful! Obviously this sort of thing is very commonplace and they were prepared! Fifi has never smelled so sweet. I think Princess was rather jealous that Fifi received so much attention. We stayed at a nice little motel and now are getting ready to hit the road. The great thing about the visit with the skunk, is that Princess and I no longer will be camping on this trip. :)

Skunks

Last night we camped in a lovely campground. We were VERY much surrounded by nature. So much so that darling Fifi found a skunk that she attempted to befriend. Needless to say before we hit the road today she will be making a visit to a groomer. My poor darling stinks! Princess and Samson have made it clear that they will not travel with such a stench! It is actually very comical to see how fast they move when Fifi heads in their direction. :(

Heading Home

San Fransisco has been so wonderful, so friendly to our babies. Alas it is time to head home. We plan on camping a couple of times, much to Princess’ displeasure. Samson, Fifi and Jim enjoy it so much, how can I say no?

Travel Pet Insurance

Jim and I think this is one of the most important preparations you can make for the safety of your beloved pets. You sure wouldn’t travel without your insurance card! (more…)

San Fran

I did not know how very pet friendly San Francisco is! The babies went to parks, shops, places to eat, and even on the cable cars! Princess did not like that too well! I think we are gong to stay another day or two. Heading to the beach!

Reno

We arrived in Reno and found a small but clean motel. Had to pay for double the room rate because we have 3 “pets”. We are off to explore before getting some sleep and leaving for Ca. in the morning. I am actually enjoying this little adventure. I will keep you posted! :)

Reno First

Jim is feeling most adventurous! We are going to Reno, NV then we are traveling to CA. The babies know something is going on, they are like kids in a candy store!(pacing, jumping, here and there.) I must admit that I kind of like the idea of being spontanious, although it is NOT my nature. I sure hope that man of mine knows what he is doing!!
