My Latest Shopping Trip

Ordinarily I love to shop for all my pet gear online – such a great selection, and I can comparison shop for the best prices, too. This time, though, since our weekend getaway is just a few days away, I decided I’d have to hit the pet superstore in town. The best thing about the store is that everybody brings their pets to shop! Of course Princess doesn’t really like it too much, and I’m just not too sure how Yoyo would react, so I left them at home (in separate rooms!) and just took Fifi and Samson.

Fifi and Samson were thrilled at the outing! They always think I’m there to buy them treats, and of course they headed straight for the dog aisle. They’d probably have been pretty miffed when I tried to steer them toward the kitty section, but there was a great big Alaskan Malamute blocking the way to the doggie snacks. My two cowards got scared and ran off, dragging me with them! (The Malamute seemed perfectly friendly to me, but I could just see Samson and Fifi thinking “wolf! Wolf!”.)

The one thing I needed most was another cat carrier – a hard-sided one like Princess’s so Yoyo wouldn’t get bumped around too much in the back of our station wagon. I was pretty tempted, though, by some soft-sided carriers that looked like purses with little ventilated windows for the pet to look out. Hmmmmm, maybe I’ll come back later to pick up a few that would make it so easy to take both kitties with me everywhere I go! Wonder if I could persuade Jim to carry one, too – then we just could pick up Fifi and carry her along! Not Samson, though – I think 25 lbs. is a bit too heavy for a handbag.

Anyway, I picked out a nice hard-sided carrier, also a leash for Yoyo (wonder how she’ll react?), some more litter and food, and, yes, a couple of treats for two very well-behaved doggies. (The Malamute was gone from the dog-treat aisle by the time we stocked up on kitty supplies.) And of course a few kitty treats to bring to the girls at home so they don’t feel too left out.

The last stop of the day was to swing by the vet’s to pick up some more travel-sickness medication for poor Fifi. I hate to keep dosing her like this, even though I know it’s necessary! A friend of mine was telling me about this homeopathic vet she goes to – maybe I should give her a call, see if there’s any herbal remedies that would work for a carsick Shih Tzu. I think I remember reading something about ginger, or was it chamomile? Well, I’ll have to look it up later, when we get back from our trip.
