The good news is, there was nothing very wrong with the air conditioning, and it was fixed as promised. I was sure to try it out first, and a perfect blast of chilly air hit me. The rest of the journey was smooth sailing. Well, relatively…there was one moment when we obviously waited a bit too long between breaks, and Fifi had an accident. It’s a good thing we’ve got those waterproof pet car seat covers! They make it a breeze to clean away anything unwanted, and protect the upholstery from any lingering smells which are a natural result of traveling with pets.
We arrived at Las Vegas just after sundown. The great thing about Las Vegas is that it’s a city that stays awake all night long, and there are plenty of places to pick up a cheap eat! I called Kelly, the pet sitter (who I was still a little anxious about, I must admit), and asked if she could baby sit for a couple of hours. Now I was in Las Vegas I wanted to make the most of it! I called Lucy and announced that we’d finally arrived, and we arranged to meet at Caesar’s Palace in an hour.
Our hotel was just what we were looking for! The rooms had been redone fairly recently, and it wasn’t far from The Strip (but far enough away that it was quiet and restful). The pets were glad to be out of the car, and sniffed happily around the room, behaving themselves as well as could be expected after a couple of days in the car! We had quick showers, got ourselves ready for a night out, and drove to Kelly’s house, about ten minutes away from the hotel.
Kelly was perfect! And her house was amazing (at least for pets). It was clear she was a real pet person, and didn’t have a preference for either cats or dogs, loving them both equally. Her backyard was a pets’ paradise, with plenty of space for the dogs to run around, and a fantastic cat run, which would allow Princess all the climbing and fun she could get, while not letting her out of the yard. As an added bonus, Kelly volunteered to keep them for the night (with no extra charge, she said, as she’d be sleeping for most of it anyway). I was a bit reluctant, but Jim convinced me that we may as well make the most of our first night in Vegas, and the last thing we wanted was to disturb Kelly at some ridiculous hour of the night.
We had a fantastic time, and the next morning when we went to pick up the pets, it appeared that they did too! They obviously adored Kelly, despite the short time they’d been with her, and I had no qualms at all about leaving them with her whenever we had to during our week in Las Vegas. Of course, when we vacation with our pets, we expect to spend time with them, after all – they’re family to us! But there are times when a pet sitter is absolutely indispensable, and I suppose like a babysitter for the kids, a petsitter can really give a couple time to themselves!
