1. Las Vegas Here We Come!
A good friend is getting married in Las Vegas. We’ve known Lucy for over ten years, and although she’s planning on having a small wedding, she wants Jim and I to attend, which is great, but it means a bit of planning! Naturally, I did the first thing I always do when we go traveling, and that’s look for pet friendly accommodation!
Fortunately, even Las Vegas has pet friendly hotels. However, like so many other places, many hotels specify a maximum of one or two pets. Eventually, we decided on the Best Western Main Street Inn, a hotel with no pet restrictions and an additional charge of just $15. Of course, we rang up the hotel first, just to be on the safe side, and to ensure that it would be okay to bring our three, smallish pets with us. Honestly, they didn’t seem too keen on three pets, and I assured the lady I spoke to that I’d pay extra to cover the cost of any damages (as if my babies would cause any problems at all!)
Now that we had our pet-friendly hotel lined up and booked, I was again feeling confident about the prospect of a holiday with the pets. Of course, for a holiday like this one I’ll need more than just a pet friendly hotel. I’ll also need a pet sitter! No matter how pet-friendly Las Vegas is, I just can’t imagine taking my three babies down the strip, and while I’m not a gambler, I can’t imagine the casinos would welcome pets on the floor.
Now, this is always one of my bigger issues when vacationing. I’m just not happy leaving Fifi, Samson and Princess with people I don’t know. Call me a fool, but to me they’re like children, and you wouldn’t leave your kids with complete strangers would you? At least not before getting to know them a bit! The good news is, I easily located someone who’d be happy to care for my three bundles of joy when needed. The lady’s name is Kelly, and she sounds like a pet lover (silly, I know, but that’s important!) and all we have to do is hope it works out well when the time comes.
Now that’s sorted, I’m a happy little camper. We’ve got all our traveling equipment ready to go, with the dogs’ harnesses and Princess’ cat cage, and I’ve booked the pets in for a checkup at the local vet’s before we leave. We’ll only be gone a week, but I like to know they’re healthy, especially after Samson’s sickness on a previous vacation. I always keep a list of local vets with me, but I’d rather assure my little guys were in tip top condition before starting off!
So, Las Vegas here we come!
