What can I say? This was one of the most enjoyable stays we had on our trip. Not only were the pets able to roam freely inside the big house and yard, but the food was great as was the lovely homey atmosphere. Don’t get me wrong, I adore traveling, but there’s something nice about being able to relax at home in front of the fire after a long day’s work!
And here’s where Bed and Breakfasts really come into their own! Because it’s a house, it’s more like being at home but without the hassles of normal daily living! Let’s see, no housework and no cooking just to name a couple of benefits! We had an adorable room, furnished in pink and quite floral (okay, I thought it was adorable, Jim looked a little green when he saw all the frills and ruffles!) and the pets were able to sleep in there with us. We even had our own little fire place, keeping us cozy. Princess joined me on the bed, while the dogs were very content in front of the fire.
Another fantastic advantage!! Jean, the fantastic lady that she is, actually suggested that Jim and I go out for an evening together, while she’d care for the pets. Wahoo! She’ll get an extra big tip just for that, I think! Not only did we go out for a fabulous Italian dinner at an excellent local restaurant, but we were also able to get tickets for the theatre afterwards. I can tell you, if we ever head back this way, I know where we’ll be staying. Honestly, many places say they’re “pet friendly” but most are simply accepting of pets, they don’t go out of their way to make it a great place for the pets themselves. Jean honestly put herself beyond the call of duty for us.
One of the biggest challenges I’ve found with pet travel, is that some of the best places don’t suit our situation. You see, there are some great dog camps out there, especially designed for dog lovers and their canine family members. Cats, on the other hand, are not welcome! (And probably wouldn’t enjoy themselves if they were, truth be told!) This is the only reason we haven’t considered a trip involving a dog camp, because we couldn’t really bear to leave Princess behind while we took the dogs. It just wouldn’t seem fair… For this reason, we always try and plan our holidays with all three pets in mind. It makes for a bit of a challenge for us, naturally, but we wouldn’t be without our guys!
